CommCon is now less than two months away and we are looking forward to hosting this exciting new event with lots of energetic contributors from literally the whole world of open real time communications.
We believe the tickets are great value for the scope and depth of the event, and therefore easy to justify for those who work commercially in this area. Unfortunately we also know that attending conferences like CommCon is expensive for community members in education, self-funded or social-benefit roles. These are also exactly the kind of attendees that a true community conference like CommCon should welcome because of the value that they both gain and contribute.
Discussing this with Rob Pickering, Founder at IPCortex, we came up with a plan to make this happen. IPCortex has a purposeful view of promoting open standards and diverse participation in the development of technology that will shape our lives. Rob and IPCortex have generously agreed to sponsor a number of free places at CommCon which will be reserved for folks who have a significant interest in the community but wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend and participate. As Rob says: “The increasing pace at which technology is fundamentally changing our world is profound. The most effective practical way that the technology community can ensure the best outcomes for all of society is by making sure that we enable, in fact actively embrace, contributions from talented individuals from all backgrounds. This isn’t always as easy as it seems, but every positive step brings massive benefits to our community”.
If you want to attend this year, but are unable to do so on purely economic grounds, then please do apply for one of these places.
Naturally there are some conditions, IPCortex is sponsoring 100% of the ticket cost so, for successfully selected individuals, the tickets will be issued free of charge. We are unfortunately not able to contribute to travel, transfers, or other incidental costs, nor any of the things at the conference that are not included in the ticket price (drinks in the evenings, anything you order at the hotel etc). You should only apply for a free ticket if you are able to fund your own travel costs to and from the venue.
There are a limited number of tickets available on this basis and if we receive more requests than tickets then we will allocate these to the applications that we feel would most benefit both the individual and the community. For this reason the application form asks you about your interests and contribution to the real time communication community with the opportunity to list open source projects or social benefit organisations that you contribute to. Please do fill this in as fully as possible for the best chance of being allocated. Closing date for applications is 24th of May, successful applicants will be informed on 26th May and will need to commit to attendance and redeem their free ticket by 30th May.
To apply, please fill in the Google Form. We can’t wait to see you all in June!
